Juliette Sunshine in the City

New Life….New City!  Juliette Sunshine: follow us on Instagram  Facebook  Twitter

Sooooo……it’s been such a long time since I’ve posted to this blog. I would love to say that there’s been something super important that has kept me from continuing to write & continuing to post but the truth is that the past few months have just been really about work, family, focusing on change (a big move across country-during a snowstorm!), and rediscovering again what I really want in life.

Ever since I can remember I’ve always loved to draw, to create & to make things and my love for fashion & design began when I was a teenager growing up in downtown NYC. At first I wanted to be a boutique owner, a fashion buyer or an illustrator. But once I went to design school, I knew there was no turning back, I had found what I LOVED. But it’s been a journey of doing different things, designing for different fashion companies & launching my own businesses as well. Not once, but twice….I created my own independent start up clothing companies. The first one was for women’s wear and the second on for girls clothing. I have been so super passionate about both companies and poured my heart and soul into it each time.

But now that my daughter is just turning 9 (!), she’s inspired me to merge my three fashion loves : Women’s Wear, Girls Clothing & Fashion Trend Blogging into one with a new Mommy & Me concept for Juliette Sunshine. I’m so excited about this idea and can’t wait to get it up and running, but in the meantime I will be blogging about everything that inspires us and all our family adventures in the city.

I think it’s really important to DREAM BIG, but also to know that your dreams can evolve as you grow & change. Right now I’m really just rethinking the idea of what it means to be successful, creative and happy. How do you balance it all?

I love to design, create & work hard & right now I’m so incredibly inspired by our recent move back to New York City! After so many years in California, my husband & I made a bold move & decided to move our family to NYC. It’s been amazing to be back here in a place that is just bursting with inspiration & creative energy. As a native New Yorker I’m just loving city life again & all that it has to offer.

Meet Me In Palm Springs

Just got back from a fun filled family trip to Palm Springs. I love this place so much that one of the new Juliette Sunshine Spring/Summer ’15 collections drew inspiration from the bright colors, retro vibe and tropical heat of the Palm Springs desert. I’m finally getting ready to debut the new collection & new website I’ve been working on the past few months.

Here is a sneak peak from the new collection & some photos from our trip for inspiration. We will now be offering hand crafted & limited edition dresses, t-shirts & skirts in Girls sizes 6-12.

Hope you have a beautiful day!

Time Flies

Happy New Year! There’s been so many changes & I can hardly believe that after more than five years of being a Mom to my little girl, we welcomed a new soul into the world……a beautiful little boy named Kingston who is now 6 months old.

He is so sweet and happy….. we love him so much! But time is flying & these past few months have passed so quickly….

Things have changed, life has evolved and honestly I never ever thought I would find myself in the place I’m in right now…..Soon after my husband accepted a new job offer and we relocated from sunny LA to the San Francisco Bay Area, I came to realize that the best thing for me to do was to put my ever demanding clothing business on hold for a bit, to take a break from the long hours I was working day and night, and to spend some time with my daughter. A few months later, I became pregnant again and so the story goes on….

For someone like me who has been working hard all my life since I was 14 years old (!), has traveled the world as a designer, and has launched and run my own clothing business for several years…it’s been a huge adjustment to stay home and focus on being a Mom…..Sometimes it’s really hard, but most of the time, it’s pretty amazing….

Now my days are filled with cooking, cleaning, drop offs, pick ups, play dates, homework, nursing, nap times, diapers and more diapers, reading, dancing, SO MUCH LOVE and many exhausting sleepless nights.

I will always cherish this time in my life and I’m truly grateful for the chance to spend so much time with my daughter and the new baby!

But that being said, a girl can always use a little GLAMOUR in her life & sometimes I do really miss the frenetic pace of working in the fashion world and having a good reason for getting dressed up every day….

So, after a long hiatus, I’ve decided to get back to working on the Juliette Sunshine blog by taking it to a new direction. Instead of focusing on my designs, I’ll be focusing on all the PLACES, PEOPLE and PRETTY THINGS that INSPIRE ME and taking a more personal approach to blogging about my family life and all the things that I LOVE…..with a new life and style blog for you and your little ones.

It’s a month into 2013 and seems like the perfect time for a new beginning!

Baby Love: Inspiration for the Nursery

My latest obsession is all about getting ready for our new baby! I’m so excited about the new addition to our family….and having fun researching all that comes with the new bundle of joy. Here is some of what I’ve been admiring and getting inspired about for baby’s new arrival.

Getting Inspired for the Nursery…..I want to do something modern and simple, but still creative….the look has to fit in with the rest of our house, a little bit modern, a little bit retro. I’m loving the colors black, white, grey and red. Here is some inspiration:

love everything about this room so much!…. from Design Crisis

so cool & modern…..from apartmenttherapy.com

most amazing color composition…..from kristineeldrige.com

love this!……from highway-design.blogspot.com

Will be adding photos of the baby’s new nursery area once we have it all ready….so much fun!

Heading North

Team Juliette Sunshine has headed North….as in my family & I are now setting up shop in Northern California for a while…..and having fun exploring new territory in the Bay area. Here are some interesting things we have seen in our travels…..

Street Art
I Love Flowers
Pretty Days
More Than Palm Trees

Things are much less hectic here & a lot “greener” than LA and you can actually walk here! Lately I have had a little bit of time to reflect on the whole process of developing a new business and feeling like I want to get back to where I first started, making more unique & one of a kind pieces & getting back to the hand-crafted vibe I originally started with….I love when the whole collection looks special & exciting, and after much experimentation with different looks for the company, I’m just not so sure that adding the basic designs & creating such big collections are really me or the look I wanted for Juliette Sunshine after all……once you start doing the trade shows & having sales & doing production, it’s so easy to get caught up in what other people think you should do or what you think buyers want to see….but at the end of the day, if you’re not really doing what you want & what you love & believe in, what are you really doing, anyway? I have so many ideas all the time, but there are only so many hours in each day and there is just so much to do- so why not just focus on what you love, right?

So, here’s to new beginnings & happy travels! Cheers & see you soon
