Happy New Year! 2017

Hope you had the happiest of New Year’s celebrations…..! I know many people were happy to say farewell to 2016 & it’s always fun to have a fresh start again. I know that for me it was a great year in many ways but also had some ups and downs and bittersweet moments, but that’s what life is all about isn’t it? Each day is a new chance to start again and keep on moving forward….& I’m so excited for 2017 and the chance to keep on pursuing all my dreams….

Speaking of dreams, I have not been very active on this blog lately as the kids are growing up and getting older now & I’ve been so inspired by Women’s Wear Design & Trend Research lately as that is what I originally focused all my time on before I became a Mom.  It’s been fun & exciting to get back into it & to figure out how to blend all my interests & passions together with my family life.

In 2017 I plan to challenge myself not to give up on any creative interests that I have and not to ever feel like there’s not enough time for everything because if you really plan things out, there’s a way to squeeze it all in at the end of the day, you just might have to wake up a little earlier or watch a little less TV! What are your goals for 2017?

Summer in the City-Mother Daughter Style

Happy Friday! The kids and I have been enjoying this summer so much so far! Between the beach, pools, sprinklers, outdoor concerts & gorgeous public parks, there’s tons of things to do & see here in the city.

When my daughter and I happen to have a rare free day together that’s just the two of us, we like to do a “girls day” by going out to brunch in Brooklyn, heading to Soho for mother daughter shopping or stopping by the park to enjoy some time in nature.

Here are some pics of our latest adventures & what we wore……Happy Summer!

A MOTHER DAUGHTER BRUNCH DAY

Right now we are loving cool & comfortable summer dresses in bright colors & fun floral prints…

5 Things to Love this Summer

#1) Flip Flops:  One of my favorite places to be on Earth is the beach! I just love the sun, the sand, the ocean….While just about any beach will do for me, what’s so fun is just getting to wear something cool & casual and when the weather gets hot, I love to put on cute flip flops. Here are my current matching favorites for Mama & Mini’s

#2) Sundresses:  When the sun is out and the heat is strong, the best thing to wear is a great sundress! Here are some of my current favorites for a chic summer look:

#3) Ice Cream:   If someone asks me what my favorite food is, the first thing that comes to mind is ice cream! What is your favorite flavor?

this is one of the best ice cream places I have been to in NYC : Morgenstern’s

#4) Outdoor Parks: With or without kids, its so fun to spend time in public parks, especially in summer. NYC has some of the best parks & one of my current favorites is by Dumbo in Brooklyn

      3) Throwback- not sure why, but totally thinking about the 90’s lately…who remembers these girls? I SO wanted to be like Naomi or Christy….they always seems so strong & so beautiful. Such a cool photo & looks like it was shot in Soho where I grew up.

      Little Bohemian Style

It’s been soooo long since my last post! Where did all the time go? Things have been so different since moving from LA and so much has changed. After two solid years focusing every ounce of my efforts and every “spare” moment of my time designing, producing, marketing, selling & shipping my “Juliette Sunshine-Eco-friendly clothing for girls” collection; I decided to pull the plug and put everything on hold for a while. After moving to a new city and with so many changes in our lives, it really seemed like I needed to be fully present for my daughter & to focus on family for a while. The whole reason I had started the line in the first place was so I could work at home, be my own boss and spend more time with my daughter….

What I learned is that designing what you want to is very satisfying and building a company from scratch can be very empowering, but there is really no escape from the long hours and hard work that comes with being a head designer at a company, whether it’s for your own tiny business or a huge corporate company. At the end of the day, you are still a working Mom juggling two worlds & trying to make time for everything. But the truth is sometimes you just have to live it. You gotta do what you want to do when you have the chance to do it and just see how it flows, see how it goes….life is short, after all.

And in between all of this, I’ve been busy with someone new in our world- Kaiya’s little brother Kingston. He is such a cute little guy & it really has been amazing to have this time to build our family.  But…… all this kid time has made me realize just how much I miss WORKING & I miss FASHION….so I started a new style inspiration blog for women called Rock Paper Sequins. I also thought it would be fun to relaunch the Juliette Sunshine blog and have it be the “girl version” of Rock Paper Sequins, focusing on style, trends & curated fashion inspiration for girls……

So here’s my first style post for 2014…..a few things I’m loving right now:

      Time Flies

Happy New Year! There’s been so many changes & I can hardly believe that after more than five years of being a Mom to my little girl, we welcomed a new soul into the world……a beautiful little boy named Kingston who is now 6 months old.

He is so sweet and happy….. we love him so much! But time is flying & these past few months have passed so quickly….

photo(7)  a little moment in time of nesting in and becoming a Mom all over again…

reading......and my big girl is getting adjusting to Kindergarten life….

Things have changed, life has evolved and honestly I never ever thought I would find myself in the place I’m in right now…..Soon after my husband accepted a new job offer and we relocated from sunny LA to the San Francisco Bay Area, I came to realize that the best thing for me to do was to put my ever demanding clothing business on hold for a bit, to take a break from the long hours I was working day and night, and to spend some time with my daughter. A few months later, I became pregnant again and so the story goes on….

For someone like me who has been working hard all my life since I was 14 years old (!), has traveled the world as a designer, and has launched and run my own clothing business for several years…it’s been a huge adjustment to stay home and focus on being a Mom…..Sometimes it’s really hard, but most of the time, it’s pretty amazing….

Now my days are filled with cooking, cleaning, drop offs, pick ups, play dates, homework, nursing, nap times, diapers and more diapers, reading, dancing, SO MUCH LOVE and many exhausting sleepless nights.

      a peek into the nursery…

I will always cherish this time in my life and I’m truly grateful for the chance to spend so much time with my daughter and the new baby!

But that being said, a girl can always use a little GLAMOUR in her life & sometimes I do really miss the frenetic pace of working in the fashion world and having a good reason for getting dressed up every day….

So, after a long hiatus, I’ve decided to get back to working on the Juliette Sunshine blog by taking it to a new direction. Instead of focusing on my designs, I’ll be focusing on all the PLACES, PEOPLE and PRETTY THINGS that INSPIRE ME and taking a more personal approach to blogging about my family life and all the things that I LOVE…..with a new life and style blog for you and your little ones.

It’s a month into 2013 and seems like the perfect time for a new beginning!

      With Love,

      Zoe
